Most Y2K inspiration is summer inspiration: baby tees, low-rise jeans, mini skirts. But the early 2000s had a very recognisable winter look too: faux fur hoods, zip-ups layered under jackets, knit beanies, bootcut jeans over boots. It is warmer than it sounds and easier to wear than summer Y2K.

How to layer without looking bulky
Think in three layers and keep the thickest one on the outside:
- Base: a fitted tee or long sleeve. Thin and close to the body.
- Mid: a zip-up hoodie or knit. This is usually the Y2K piece.
- Outer: a faux leather jacket or a coat. Hood from the mid layer goes over the collar.

Winter Y2K mistakes to avoid
- Two big layers. An oversized hoodie under an oversized puffer hides every shape. Keep one fitted.
- Jeans tucked into boots with flares. It defeats the cut. Wear flares and bootcuts over the boot.
- Losing the Y2K detail. A plain coat, plain jeans and plain sneakers is just winter. Let the hood, the fur trim or the beanie show.
